Rural Mental Health Training Opportunity – 2020

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Alberta has a training (+ funding) opportunity specifically for rural communities (i.e. any town outside of the 7-urban centers). The Rural Mental Health Project (RMHP) can provide training and funding to each community, plus connections with other rural communities, local and provincial stakeholders who are working to support rural mental health.

Our next project training will be in the Olds region beginning on March 16, 2020!

  • March 16 – Online training begins
  • April 22 & 23 – First in-person training
  • May 13 & 14 – Second in-person training

The RMHP aims to strengthen community capacity for better mental health in rural and remote communities. The Project focuses on building local capacity in up to 150 rural communities in Alberta by training Animators living in those communities. The Animator is a local community member who is interested in catalyzing that conversation in the community.  Animators can connect with other stakeholders through the Rural Mental Health Network—a hub to work collectively, learn from others and gain/share access to resources, funding, and more.

Training and funding are provided to Animators to cover their time and travel. Funds are routed through a local community back bone organization, who can help identify Animators in their community and support the Animators’ connections within the community. Visit our website for more information.

If you (or others) are interested in taking part in the project, please complete the following:

  1. Expression of Interest – Complete this brief form– You can choose your preferences for starting dates so that we can best coordinate our training sessions with Animators, subsequently we will follow up with you
  2. Have an Animator ready to go?  Complete this form – It gives us the details to confirm and schedule the Animator in the next available training session (be sure to complete the Expression of Interest, as well)
  3. Sign up for the Rural Mental Health Newsletter HERE – Provides quarterly updates on the project and Network activities and growth
  4. Register to join the Rural Mental Health Network HERE—A space to learn more, to share resources, events, experiences, and more!

Important Note – If you are working within a county/region that has multiple smaller communities, each small community can identify a person living in their community to become an Animator and have access training and funding.
Please feel free to take advantage of this opportunity in your region and share this information with any people you think may be interested. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, please contact rmh@cmha.ab.ca.
